Main attraction: On the North of the district, the river Brahmaputra forms the largest River Island of the world, MAJULI, spreading over 924.6 sq. Kms. With a population of about 1.50 lakh. Majuli has been the principal place of pilgrimage of the Vaishnavites since the ages of the Ahom rule. Nominated for the world heritage list of the UNO.

Golaghat:
Township: 50 kms South-West of Jorhat.
Famous for: Kaziranga National Park.
What to see: Negheriting Siva Temple. Nambor reserve forest/Garampani, Anthkhelia Bornamghar, Deopahar ruins, Deopani Temple, Tea Gardens.
Main attraction: Kaziranga National Park, the home of the One Horned Rhinoceros, also renowned for elephant grass. It covers forest area of 430 sq. kms. On the southern bank of the Brahmaputra, 85 kms. West of Jorhat, occupies the vast valley floor against a backdrop of the forest covered Karbi Anglong hills.
